About Us

Are you new to the church or the area? If so, you are very welcome to join us! Please do check out our "I'm New" page to get all the information about what goes on at our church.

We are a dynamic church made up of people from all walks of life and from different nations. We love to see new people and are confident that you will feel right at home. Our Sunday mornings begin with a warm welcome and an invitation to join us in celebrating the good news about Jesus Christ. We are also very active in our local community working alongside other agencies and running our own projects in order to express the love of God in a practical way.

Tamworth Elim Church is a member of the Elim Pentecostal Church which has around 600 churches in the UK as well as churches in thirty five countries around the world (registered charity 251549).

In 2002, our church launched a charitable company in order to flexibly respond to the needs of our local community through a range of social projects. Our church leaders also serve as trustees of The Manna House (Tamworth) Company (Registered in England and Wales as a Company Limited by Guarantee No. 4491448; Registered Charity No. 1093988). The registered office for the Manna House Company is 258-264 Glascote Road, Glascote, Tamworth B77 2AY.

OUR HISTORY

The Elim Pentecostal Church movement is an evangelical organisation. Emerging from the Welsh Revival of 1904-5, it grew with amazing speed, largely as a result of the great evangelistic work of its founder George Jeffreys. There are now over 600 Elim churches here in the UK, and the Elim movement is represented in over 35 countries. Across the globe there are over 500 million Pentecostal Christians.

Locally

In the late 1890’s, Miss Shepherd and Miss Watson started a Gospel Mission in Halls Row in Tamworth. A small church building was purchased in 1919 in Park Street and the church joined the Elim movement in 1923.

The church remained in Park Street until 1969, at which time a former Methodist Church building at the corner of Bamford Street and Glascote Road was purchased. It was used until 1977, when a compulsory purchase order was taken out by the Council, and a new church was built on our present site.

In 1996 the Elim Church purchased a row of derelict houses on the Glascote Road adjacent to the church, and created The Manna House, a multi-purpose centre for the entire community of Glascote and which is used every day of the week for a host of charitable and community purposes.

In 2003/4 a further building programme was undertaken. This added further office space, larger catering kitchen, 64 place day nursery, day centre annex, and a church auditorium able to seat 250.

Some key information about the church...

Where & when does the church meet?

Our Church meets at 10.30am for our Sunday Service. We suggest you aim to arrive at least 10 minutes early to get a parking spot and seat in time for the service to start.  Our Sunday morning service lasts around 80 minutes.

We meet at:

Tamworth Elim Church
Bamford Street,
Glascote,
Tamworth,
Staffs
B77 2AT

You can see a map on our contact us page

There is limited parking available on the site (two small car parks on Bamford Street; one slightly larger car park on Neville Street). Many people park on Abbey Road a short walk away as Bamford Street can be very congested.

What should I expect when I visit the church on a Sunday morning?

Our Welcome Team will be pleased to meet you as you arrive and they will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go. Families often arrive in time to catch up with each other before the service begins. At the start of the service, the church family celebrates the goodness and love of God through music. Our music is lively and contemporary and we are blessed with a talented all-age group of musicians. This time can also include prayers, Bible reading and church/community/family news and updates.

The children and youth remain in the main meeting for about 30 minutes before they leave to enjoy their own age-relevant teaching.  There is also a sound-proof crèche area for the very young, with views and sound links into the main church auditorium (this is available for parents to use throughout the service).

Pastors Steve Jonathan and Dan Brockway teach regularly on the biblical foundation for contemporary Christian living and we are also blessed with many gifted and able speakers that supplement our teaching ministry each week.

Following the service, refreshments are available to all with time to catch up with the wider church family and ask any questions you may have.

No offering is taken at our service, though an offerings box is situated on the back wall of our church for those wishing to give to the work and ministry of our church.

What happens for the kids at church?

We have a range of fantastic programmes for the kids at the Church for ages 0–12. Children stay with their parents for the first part of the service as we celebrate together. An announcement will be made when the children can go to their age-appropriate groups and programmes. If this is your first visit you will need to go with your children to register them.

For more information about what happens in the children's work please visit the relevant age groups for your family under Church Life.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

You are of course free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
